It was one of those sunny days on the coast — the tide was all the way out, revealing lost coves I’d never explored before. I clambered over the jagged edges when suddenly froze. Something… someone was ahead of me. Was it a girl? No. It looked different. I hid behind a rock as I crept closer. Could it be? A mermaid?! I watched as she flicked her tail, ignoring she was being observed. But I got too close — she saw me! She squealed and slid down the seaweed in a panic, tail wriggling as she escaped back to the sea. I chased her down to the waterline just in time to see her stuck by the low tide. But instead of panicking, she just floated… watching me. Curious. Almost playful. I couldn’t oppose. I stripped down and slid into the sea to get closer. She darted around me, teasing me, always just out of reach in the murky water. Then — gone.
